As we grieve the loss of Mark Anderson, we look to the indelible ways he shaped our community. After Mark and his wife, Patty, started the Walla Walla Foundry in 1980, their tireless creative industry drew acclaimed artists to our corner of Washington and revealed Walla Walla’s potential as a center for the arts. Since those early days, Mark had a hand in just about every arts organization, community initiative and public art project. His generous support of ArtWalla was instrumental in bringing together an impressive collection of public art downtown, in addition to the array of installations and sculptures on Whitman College’s campus. We are grateful for Mark’s vision of a vibrant arts community and his consistent dedication to local arts organizations, including ArtWalla. His fortifying advocacy will be missed, but Mark’s legacy continues on at the Foundry and in his longstanding commitment to the community, visible in every sculpture on Main Street.

Walla Walla Arts Collaborative

Nine Walla Walla nonprofit arts organizations have started talking about creating a shared space for the arts. The nine organizations are the Walla Walla SymphonyArtWallaWalla Walla Valley BandsWalla Walla Choral SocietyShakespeare Walla WallaDanza Classica BalletCarnegie Picture LabWalla Walla Piano Group, and Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival.  At this point, the shared space is a concept, and we are going through an iterative process, guided by The Nonprofit Centers Network, to determine how big this space might be, who will call it home, and much more.
