ArtWalla's Public Art Contributions

In 1997, ArtWalla began work with City officials to create the ordinance #95-18, "Arts Collection Management," providing the process for public art acquisition. In 2001, thanks to an anonymous donor and the generosity of the artists and the WW Foundry, ArtWalla gifted the first three bronze sculptures to the City. With assistance from the Downtown Walla Walla Foundation, the Sherwood Trust, many local, regional & national trusts and foundations,as well as donations from our members and supporters, ArtWalla has made possible 14 public art installations throughout downtown.

In addition to the richness and texture that public art adds to the quality of life, it provides important educational benefits. Students who study the arts score higher on verbal and math SAT scores than those without arts in their lives. To enhance this educational benefit, ArtWalla produced the Public Art Walking Tour and Coloring Book. Click here to download its pages for your use.

Walla Walla's high quality public art collection also carries a direct economic benefit to everyone in the community. It creates a backdrop of beauty and inspiration for our award-winning historic downtown and growing reputation, not only for world-class wine and stimulating cultural events, but as one of the "Best Small Art Towns" in America.
