Artist Statement
While pursuing an MFA in Ceramics, Robin Leventhal took a summer job in catering. This led to an illustrative career in food stretching 3 decades. Accepting a Culinary Arts instructor job in Walla Walla has enabled that illusive work life balance where she can now focus back on her first love, clay.

Robin draws inspiration from the organic world. Her forms evoke fluidity from the ocean and pods collected over the years. She is an avid gardener which immerses her face to face in the macro world, further informing these elements into her work.

Surface tension embodies the idea of time, a construct all living things are bound by. Erosion, oxidation and patinas all tell the story of their journey, adding a sense of wonder. Ultimately, she hopes to compel tactile curiosity for the viewer.

In this show her vessels are designed to celebrate the provocative orchid. The pliability and sensuality of clay merge to create forms that are both aesthetically driven while simultaneously functional. An underlying conversation portrays the perilous balance of life and decay, intertwined by beauty.

While temporal, we are surrounded by such magnificence. Here, Robin honors that reverence to life itself through reverence of the exquisite orchid.
