Lora Elliot is a self-taught artist based in Pendleton OR. Shot on B/W 35mm film, Elliot will be presenting a body of work shot in local laundry-mats. Exploring tensions between the public and the private, banality and the idiosyncratic, Elliot’s photographs tenderly portray people going about the everyday task of wardrobe washing. Creatively composed, Elliot’s photographs also portray the geometry and repetition inherent in laundry-mats and in this way push towards an aesthetic of abstraction.

The language of the abstract is also present in the color photographs of Jenna Meecham. Taking found/undeveloped film as their source, Meecham’s photographs embrace the inherent flaws of degraded film as well as the fading traces of the original exposures: here we see remnants of images floating in washes of color or grainy texture all unintentionally produced through time and decay. Scanned, cropped and hand printed, Meecham’s photographs are essentially collaborations with other unknown photographers The resulting beauty in these photos is remarkable both for its striking originality and for its exploration of the unknown and authorship itself.
